ADVANCED WASTE DISPOSAL SOLUTIONS
We have everything it takes to manage and operate controlled landfill facilities in compliance with the highest levels of professionalism , and with current standards. We can handle all the numerous aspects of specialized management, avoiding waste disposal-related environmental or hygiene problems.
Among the facilities we manage, the Ginestreto 2 non-hazardous waste landfill, in the Municipality of Sogliano al Rubicone, is authorized for the disposal of mixed waste with high organic and inorganic contents; moreover, the facility recovers the biogas and uses it to produce energy. The plant serves the national territory (at the local level: ATO of Forlì-Cesena and Rimini) but also serves areas beyond national borders (Republic of San Marino).
Since 2007 the facility has been authorized in compliance with the severest legislative regulations (It.Leg.Dec. 59/05 Integrated Environmental Authorization, It.Leg.Dec. 36/03 and Min.Dec. 03/08/05). Moreover, it can receive a wide range of non-hazardous waste also because some of the current legal limits have been waived for the site.
VALUE ADDED SERVICES
Waste acceptance
From the contractual phase, before waste is transported to the landfill, the administrative aspects are defined and regulated - i.e. the type of waste that can be accepted, its origin, the transport modalities and permits needed - along with all other aspects needed to ensure that subsequent technical controls of the waste are simple and effective. To ensure that the information provided by the waste producer is compliant, it is verified and this verification is supported by on-site checks performed by the person unloading the materials and by analytical testing of a representative sample of the incoming waste.
Disposal
Once accepted, the waste is sent to the landfill where they are arranged and compacted by special machinery. The waste is accumulated in uniform layers so that the entire mass presents a profile compliant with the project configuration.
Management also covers the following waste produced by the landfill:
• biogas, the gas produced by degradation of the waste and which is sent on for energy recovery;
• leachate, the liquid fraction which is collected and disposed of in authorized purification sites.
Surveillance and control
Environmental monitoring and surveillance are ongoing and performed based on numerous aspects using different methods to determine any interactions between the landfill and the surrounding environment in order to prevent any form of pollution.
The Surveillance and control plan, compliant with current standards and authorized by the control bodies, guarantees that performed controls are constantly checked and kept up to date.
The significant number of controls - performed by independent, specialized institutions, by outside professionals and by control bodies (ARPA) - are gathered in annual reports presenting the results achieved and revealing the effectiveness of the management system adopted, the best guarantee to ensure safety at the Ginestreto plant.
Final covering and environmental restoration
Once placement of waste in the landfill has been completed, we produce a multi-layer final covering (capping compliant with It.Leg.Dec. 36/03) and final environmental restoration of the surface, with works to produce grass cover and to plant trees and shrubs. All this is performed according to an arrangement able to return the landfill to the surrounding landscape.
