All incoming waste undergoes stringent checks in terms of type and origin, through careful conformity tests as regards the accompanying documentation and forms, according to the authorisations in force and established parameters. During the first material reception phase, a management system updated in real time is in charge of logging in the loads, which are then sorted depending on their characteristics and destinations.?
Visual checks associated with random inspections and sample document collection (also photographs) make sure that the materials to be treated are of the appropriate type and in the right amount.

03. WET FRACTION RECOVERY


The organic fractions of urban and special waste needs to be stabilised (anaerobically and aerobically) for material and energy recycling. More specifically, this process produces high quality compost for farming and non-conforming compost, for environmental enhancement, protection, landscaping and similar processes. After stabilising, the waste volumes are reduced and biogas is released; the latter is captured and used to produce electricity in the related cogeneration plants.

Inside the sorting and enhancement plant, the dry waste component is divided (first mechanically, then manually) into plastics, metal, glass, wood, paper, cardboard. The sorted materials are pressed mechanically then recovered, reclaimed and recycled; the screening material after processing can be transformed into fuel from waste.

05. NON-RECYCLABLE WASTE DISPOSAL AND BIOGAS RECYCLING PLANT


Any resulting products after processing waste and scrap processing which cannot be further separated or recycled, are landfilled as non-hazardous waste. Biogas is the final product of biodegradable matter decomposition and mainly includes methane. Biogas extraction and reclaiming for energy production help accelerate the waste degradation process; as a consequence the management period after the landfill has been closed is shorter.

06. LEACHATE TREATMENT


The residual leachate after the various processes is collected and sent to a treatment plant where the chemical-physical parameters of the effluent are adjusted to appropriate values for surface water; secondary treatment products are ammonium sulphate (useful as farming amendment and in the wood industry) and a concentrated material which is landfilled again to facilitate waste degradation processes and biogas production.

07. CLEAN ENERGY PRODUCTION


During the various waste treatment processes it is possible to retrieve clean energy to be distributed or to power individual installations. Using the heat from plant combustion, building hydroelectric plants on water streams and dams, installing photovoltaic plants which can be integrated with enhancement and recovery facilities, all help produce energy with a limited environmental impact.
