History

From waste managers to guardians of the integrated cycle.

Thirty years of history, a single commitment:
turning waste into a resource.

TIMELINE

1996 - 2026

From 1996 to the present day, a journey that has transformed an environmental challenge into a source of value for our local area.

1996

Upon the initiative of the local council, Sogliano Ambiente is established to manage the “Ginestreto” landfill site in Sogliano al Rubicone: one of the first organisations in Italy to tackle the issue of waste with an innovative and responsible approach. The mission is clear: to transform an environmental challenge into a resource, generating economic, employment and energy value.

1998

Just a few years after its establishment, Sogliano Ambiente takes over the management of the cogeneration plant at the landfill site, for the energy recovery of biogas produced from waste. This is one of the first steps towards a model in which what remains from the treatment cycle can become a new resource.

2005

The Ginestreto Complex continues to expand with the opening of the G2 landfill site, it increases its capacity and consolidates its system for managing non-recoverable waste. The new landfill site complements the G1 site, whilst the focus on biogas capture and utilisation continues to evolve.

2006

With the construction of the sorting plant, Sogliano Ambiente integrates its services within a circular economy framework: disposal is no longer the sole focus but is complemented by the sorting and recovery of dry waste fractions. This marks a decisive step in the company’s transition to becoming an integrated operator, capable of designing and managing facilities dedicated to the recovery of materials and energy.

2013

The Ginestreto Complex adds two new facilities. The first is dedicated to the on-site treatment of leachate produced by the landfill sites; the second to the anaerobic digestion of the organic fraction of waste, from which biogas is produced for energy recovery. Two key elements for an increasingly integrated management cycle.

2019

The development of the Ginestreto Complex continues with the commissioning of the G4 landfill site. The new plant is part of a system now oriented towards disposing of only the non-recoverable fraction, prioritising the recovery of materials and energy.

2022

The processing of WEEE and photovoltaic panels starts at the Ponte Uso plant: a facility designed for the mechanical and selective recovery of metals, glass and silicon, intended for reuse in various industrial sectors.

2023

The sorting plant is rebuilt to meet higher safety standards. In the same year, the plant for purifying effluent generated by anaerobic digestion also comes into operation, further enhancing the integration between the various processes at the Complex.

2024

The Shareholders’ Meeting renews the corporate bodies and launches a process to transform corporate communications: the Articles of Association are revised, a new Strategic Communication Plan is developed, and the company’s first sustainability report is drawn up, reinforcing the commitment to transparency and accountability.

2025

The new technical and administrative headquarters in the centre of Sogliano, designed to meet high energy efficiency standards, is inaugurated. In December, the construction of the new Ginestreto 3 – G3 landfill site is also authorised, marking a new phase in the development of the Complex, with a substantial investment plan for photovoltaic systems that will also directly benefit the local community.

2026

Sogliano Ambiente celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, with a history characterised by industrial growth, care for the territory, sustainability and transparency. The future holds 6 million cubic metres of capacity with the completion of G3, alongside environmental and landscape restoration measures that will provide the local area with new green spaces, parks and trails.

OUR MISSION

Transforming what remains into what it can become.

Sogliano Ambiente was founded and has grown in a region that we understand deeply and to which we feel we belong.
Every day, we manage waste responsibly and rigorously, in full compliance with regulations and supported by continuous environmental monitoring and analysis. Through treatment, sorting and recovery, we give discarded materials a new lease of life wherever possible. Guided by the principles of the circular economy and the End-of-Waste framework, we recover valuable materials and generate energy from renewable sources.

Our work also involves how an industrial enterprise can coexist with local areas, contribute to their growth and ensure they are looked after over time. This is why we invest in innovation, safety, our people and the quality of our facilities, whilst always paying close attention to the landscape, the community, and the environment surrounding us.

Our ambition is to increase material recovery and the production of clean energy, whilst continuing to improve how we do business, because we believe that what appears to have reached an end can always have a new beginning.

"Nothing is lost,
nothing is created,
everything is transformed."

Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier

These words capture our vision and action.

Waste can become a secondary raw material.
A process can become more efficient.
A plant can generate energy.
Expertise can become innovation.
A company can return value to the local area in which it operates.

‘Everything is transformed’ is, for us, much more than a principle of physics: it is how we interpret our industrial responsibility, acknowledging the value of what already exists and transforming it into something that can still serve people and the future.

OUR VALUES

Integrity and transparency

We firmly believe that trust is built over time, through the integrity of our actions and the clarity of our relationships.
We comply with regulations, measure our performance and report on our results. Our Code of Ethics guides our relationships with people, employees, partners, institutions and stakeholders.

Care for the local area

We are part of this local area and share its future. This is why we care for the environment and the landscape, support the community and carry out initiatives that add value.
We believe in a business that does not just occupy a space, but helps to make it an ever-better place.

Innovation that creates value

Innovation has value when it genuinely improves things. We invest in technologies, facilities and expertise to increase material recovery, produce renewable energy and reduce our environmental footprint.
Innovation means looking at what we do today and asking ourselves what we can improve tomorrow.

Shared responsibility

The quality of a company depends on the quality of the people that are part of it.
Safety, respect for the environment, care for our facilities and our relationship with the local area are responsibilities we share.
Everyone contributes, in their own role, to the change we wish to bring about.

OUR VISION

Everything changes.
Our values remain.

Sogliano Ambiente has forged its own path by learning to anticipate change before it became a necessity.

The future calls on us to do this once again: to be forward-thinking and ready for what lies ahead.

For us, looking to the future means continuing to grow alongside the people of this community and the local area we call home, turning our history into a responsibility towards future generations.

GOVERNANCE AND ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

Sogliano Ambiente is a public company controlled by the Municipality of Sogliano al Rubicone. The company’s governance is headed by the Board of Directors, supported by the Board of Statutory Auditors. To ensure compliance with the law, integrity and transparency, the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Officer and the Supervisory Body provided for under Model 231 also operate within the organisation.

Operational management is entrusted to the Chief Operating Officer, whilst the CFO – Head of Finance, Planning and Control – reports directly to the Board of Directors. The structure comprises administrative, technical and environmental functions, as well as the managers of the various plants. Internal coordination is supported by the Management Committee – Managers’ Coordination Group, which fosters exchange, coordination and collaboration between the different business areas.

Each plant at Ginestreto Complex and at the Ponte Uso site is run by a designated manager, with specific responsibilities for operational management and for health, safety and the environment.

An organisational model structured to ensure clarity of responsibilities, operational coordination and transparency in management.

OUR PREMISES

The technical and administrative headquarters in Via della Resistenza, which was inaugurated to mark the company’s 30th anniversary, is the most visible symbol of the transformation undergone by Sogliano Ambiente: a Near Zero Energy Building, the result of an urban regeneration project in the centre of Sogliano, which provides the local community with a modern and sustainable space.
The building is equipped with integrated photovoltaic panels and charging points for electric vehicles. The complex also includes a multifunctional auditorium, Spazio SA, open to the public and designed to host events, public meetings and workshops.

More than just the headquarters: the facilities at the Ginestreto and Ponte Uso sites are also designed to minimise visual impact and return landscape value to the area, featuring large green spaces created and managed by the company, and two indoor greenhouses dedicated to the propagation of native species for the renaturalisation of disused areas.
